An old phone box in Shropshire is now home to a potentially life-saving piece of kit after a defibrillator was installed. It is the first of three arriving in the area thanks to Bradford Estates. The defibrillator has been installed in the phone box on Hubbal Lane, near St Bartholomew’s Church, in Tong, to enable members of the community to administer treatment, in the event of a cardiac arrest. Residents of the village and surrounding areas will be invited to an online training session to learn how to use it.
Managing Director, Alexander Newport, said this was great news for the community. “I’m sure this will be reassuring for local people,” he said. “Statistics show that every second counts when someone goes into cardiac arrest and a defibrillator can increase chances of survival by more than 50 per cent.
We’ve got three defibrillators coming to the area, in total,” he added. “This one in Tong, one in Brineton and one in Weston-under-Lizard.”
