The charity was founded by Sir Thomas Wilbraham Bt (1630-1692), husband of the heiress of Weston Park, Elizabeth, to provide education and training to young people living in the parishes of Blymhill or Weston-under-Lizard. All young people under the age of 21 years who have lived in the parishes are eligible for the grants. The charity supports all areas of education and training, and has most recently awarded grants to university students studying sports, midwifery, english and languages. Younger recipients of the awards include a promising musician who received financial support for ‘one to one’ instrumental lessons as part of her A level music studies.
